FAQs

  • The "This Is for Me" campaign has two core components:

    • The Fundraising Challenge: An inclusive fitness event where participants pledge to run, cycle, or roll a distance between 1 and 100 miles. The aim is to push your limits and raise funds for cancer research.

    • The Research Impact: We’re showcasing short videos from cancer researchers across the UK to highlight the real-world projects your donations support. This ensures the impact of your contribution is clear and tangible.

  • You can sign up to pledge any distance from 1 to 100 miles.

𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 £50 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞.

Join our social media communities and log your progress and final completed event through 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚.

We encourage participants to complete their pledged distance in one go to truly challenge themselves.

However, if this isn’t possible, start with a shorter distance and gradually build up to your goal over time.

There are training schedules available to help you prepare, no matter your current fitness level.

  • 1.  𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭: Choose your event and make a one-time donation directly on the campaign page. Perfect for those completing a single event.

    2.  𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐞: Set up a personalised sub-page under the campaign. This option is great if you're planning multiple events throughout the year or rallying support from friends and family to sponsor your fitness journey.

  • Yes! If you can’t complete a distance but still want to support our mission, you can visit our donations page and 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 (top right button). Every pound helps accelerate cancer research.

  • We’ll be recognizing participants with awards in several categories:

    • Most Miles Completed

    • Most Events Completed

    • Most Money Pledged and Raised

    • Most Improved

    • Random Draw

These awards are a fun way to celebrate the dedication of everyone involved in the campaign!

  • Yes! If you’re unsure how to prepare, we’ve created training schedules for all fitness levels. Whether you’re running your first 5k or tackling an ultra-marathon, we’ve got plans to guide you through the process and keep you on track.

  • We’re still welcoming video submissions from cancer researchers across the UK.

By sharing your research through a short video, your institute will be added to the pool of considerations for the grants. Videos can be sent to crukcampaign@gmail.com.

While not all researchers submitting videos are guaranteed funding, the campaign’s purpose is to highlight the breadth and diversity of cancer research in the UK, creating opportunities to support innovative projects through a transparent grant allocation process.

  • Yes! Throughout the campaign, we’ll be organising community events to bring participants together and celebrate progress. We are seeking regional volunteers to help coordinate these events on a national level. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out! crukcampaign@gmail.com

  • Absolutely! We encourage participants to buddy up and run their distance with someone else. You can connect with others on our community forum to find a running partner or support team.

  • This campaign emphasizes showcasing the direct impact of your support. We’re not just asking for donations—we’re showing exactly where the money goes by featuring videos from researchers working on cancer breakthroughs. This ensures you see the tangible outcomes of your contribution and know that your support is driving real change in cancer treatment.

  • We’re actively looking for volunteers to help make the "This Is for Me" campaign a nationwide success! Whether you have specific skills or just a passion to support the cause, there are several areas where you can get involved:

    • Organising Regional Running Events: Help coordinate local running, cycling, or rolling meet-ups for participants. These events encourage community involvement and motivate participants as they work towards their pledged distances.

    • Arranging Regional Lab Tours: Work with your research institutes to organise lab tours, giving fundraisers an inside look at the groundbreaking cancer research their efforts are supporting.

    • Sponsorship Outreach: Assist in identifying and contacting potential sponsors who can contribute financially or provide prizes and promotional opportunities for the campaign.

    • Spreading the Word on Social Media: Help us amplify the campaign by sharing updates, videos, and news on social media platforms. Your efforts will increase our reach and attract more participants and supporters.

    • Participant Engagement: Help recruit individuals to pledge their distance and join the fitness challenge. This could involve reaching out to local communities, sports clubs, or even businesses who want to get involved.

    • Other Ideas?: If you have any other ideas or skills that could help the campaign succeed—whether it’s something we haven’t thought of or a unique way to contribute—we welcome your input!

If any of these roles sound like a good fit for you, or if you have an idea for something else, please get in touch with us. We’d love to have you on board!
